ABOUT US - THE CARILLON SINGERS ARE ON A NEW ROLL!!!!?

The Carillon Singers is a four part, S.A.T.B,  35 strong Choir under the new Direction of Sam Rolles,  performing ancient and modern for audiences in Surrey and North Hampshire area.

This year Carillon said farewell to Ralph Earwicker who had Directed them for many years, losing him to a Happy Retirement in Yorkshire!

Mr Sam Rolles has stepped into the position with new challenges for Carillon.

Sam was born in Farnham, Surrey in 1987. Since an early age he showed signs of musical talent and a keen sense of performance. His Mother and Father met when they were both members of the D'Oyly Carte Opera Company. Born into this musical family he was encouraged to take up the Violin and Singing. From that point onwards music became a major part of his life. Taking part in orchestras, chamber groups, bands, and choirs around the country from an early age was key in his development as a musician and teacher. At the age of 10 he was awarded an unconditional musical scholarship to Frensham Heights School. It was at this point that Sam changed from Violin to Viola and also began studying Guitar, Percussion, and Composing. In 2004 he joined Peter Symond's Specialist Music Course in Winchester. In 2006 Sam was awarded Young Musician of Farnham. By this point in his life he was already section leader of the Hampshire County Youth Chamber Orchestra and was building up a reputation as an accomplished solo performer, having been invited to perform solos in such places as Italy, New York, and South Africa. In 2010 Sam completed a four-year performance course in Trinity College of Music, London where he was granted a full scholarship. It was here that he studied Viola, Singing, and Conducting, obtaining a BMus Honours degree in performance. As well as performing, Sam is also a gifted composer, having had his pieces played by musicians around the world. Since his graduation Sam has been an accomplished teacher, performer, composer, and conductor, taking his talents around the globe.

The Carillon Singers originally were founded as an adult 'back up' group of singers in a show put on by a local school. Enjoying the experience and camaraderie of singing together they formed themselves into a regular choir in 1988.

They have become well known in the area giving regular concerts in their 'home church', other churches, halls and residential homes raising funds for charities and other organisations - -  one of which is 'Children in Distress', a small charity devoted to helping sick, disabled and terminally ill children in Romania. See More in  OUR CHARITY PAGE
The  choir enjoys input from the accomplished Musician, Liz Sharma.

The choir is open to new singers and joint performances  particularly with young soloists and instrumental performers.  The Carillon  Singers are a friendly lot and welcome new members.  On Tour we have fun and visit many places, it's not just singing all the time!
